HTC Touch Diamond 2 Review
I saw this new installment from HTC and its so sexy that its hard to resist not buying it.
Dimensions and weight
Measuring 102 x 51 x 11.35mm and weighing 117.5g , this baby fits nicely into your pants or front pocket. I think it's size is perfect. Something i can hold properly on my hands unlike the iphone or touch hd while containing comparable features.
Outlook and feel
I really loved the brushed metal front of this phone but the back of it is a fingerprint magnet . Fortunately , they do have a matt finish back cover for sale.
Some Changes from its predecessor ( touch diamond )
Buttons:
The phone now comes with 4 hardware keys for answering calls , start menu , back and end call. The HTC diamond one had all the buttons flushed and making it neccessary to look at the buttons when you are pressing them.
There is also a new zoom scroll bar which replaces the previous models' jog wheel and it is extremely convenient to use when you need to zoom into documents and webpages. I personally prefer the old diamond's jogwheel as it also serves as a directional pad.
Screen
This is the part whereby you can decide if you really want this phone .The screen of this phone 3.2" and in terms of resolution 800 x 480. This is fair for me but people with poor eyesight would probably need to zoom in and out alot when surfing webpages or going thru documents.
My advice before getting this phone is getting to get into the sms screen and see if you can type comfortably with the on screen qwerty keyboard before deciding.
Battery life
Specs wise , the touch diamond 2 is using a 1100 mAh Li-ion battery . Theres' no way to tell if this capacity suits you for one day's use. What i can share is that most power eaters of windows mobile phones are calls , gps , wi-fi and anything that keeps the screen on. I make about 2-3 hours of calls , 1 hour worth of gps and around 1 hour wi-fi surfing and it usually leaves me with around 0-10% worth of battery life at the end of the day . I would strongly recommend a car charger for those who drives . Ill leave this for you to experiment.
Camera
The 5mega pixel camera doesn't come with a flash so you can forget about talking pictures at poorly litted places eg: disco clubs . So far all windows mobile phones takes only average quality pictures. If this feature in a phone is important to you , i would suggest going for some phones with good camera lens like nokia n85 , n96 series.
Music
This phone doesnt come with a standard 3.5mm jack which means you have to buy a mini-usb to 3.5mm convertor if you want to listen to your favorite songs on your prefered earphones .
What you can use this phone for :
- checking e-mails
- listening to music on the way to work
- playing some games ( that doesnt need directional pads )
- keeping track of appointments
- taking videos and pictures where quality doesn't matter much
- checking weather
- gps
- FM radio ( ear piece needed )
- Voice recorder
What you would not want to use this phone for :
- document editing ( theres no keyboard )
- Long hours net surfing ( the screen is not big enough )
- serious photo taking and video recording
Why i would buy this phone
- Beautiful ( this is subjective )
- Good price for its features
- better battery life than its predecessor
- better layout of hardware buttons
Why i would not buy it - screen size might be too small for proper screen typing
- no proper lens + flash for camera
- no 3.5mm jack
